Uga Halloowella, Hatton

Perched in the tranquil hills of Hatton, Uga Haloowella offers breathtaking views of the Castlereagh Reservoir.

Established in 1880, this 5-star all inclusive colonial bungalow, once the residence of WWI pilot Major Elton Lane, sits 1,444 meters above sea level.

Accessible by helicopter, scenic road trip, or CinnamonAir flights to the Castlereagh Reservoir, reaching Haloowella is an experience in itself. Restored by Uga Escapes with architect Channa Daswatte, the charm of Haloowella’s colonial past remains, featuring original pinewood walls and satinwood floors, amidst a fresh, elegant ambiance.

The bungalow boasts six luxuriously designed suites across three categories

  • The Lane Suite
  • The Pekoe Suite
  • The Planter’s Suite

Each bedroom bursts with subtle color— Tiffany blue and powdery pink—featuring four-poster beds, floral sofas, and clawfoot baths.

The two Lane Suites offer stunning reservoir and tea plantation views, while the Pekoe Suites provide enchanting private gardens. Renowned for exquisite cuisine at Ulagalla and Chena Huts, Uga maintains Haloowella’s culinary excellence. The menu blends global and local flavors in stylish presentations. Breakfast on the terrace, if the weather permits, is a delightful must-do. Afternoon tea is thoughtfully infused with Sri Lankan flavors. Again, if the weather is favorable, enjoy freshly brewed Ceylon tea on the terrace paired with delicious teatime snacks.

Perfectly crafted four-course lunches and dinners serve up flavorsome delights. In the garden, the open-aired, gazebo-shaped spa offers stunning tea estate views, delivering soothing Balinese massages. Every room includes a private butler attending to your needs, with staff mastering the art of discretion and genuine care.

Our favorite feature of the bungalow is the remarkable 17-meter infinity pool alongside a heated Jacuzzi. We enjoyed sipping champagne in the Jacuzzi, soaking in the breathtaking views of the surroundings.
